During the day, found numerous other items in the caves. One true story is that one of our soldiers went into a cave without his rifle, saw an enemy and reversed his direction very quickly. We tried to get the NVA to come out but no luck. We may have tossed a concussion grenade which may have knocked him out.

On one later cave exploration, a CS grenade was thrown in (by mistake) and the CS quickly spread among the platoon causing us some minor distress!

09:55 hrs, enemy engages US vic YD468162. Point man was wounded. SGT Lovett killed in subsequent move to attack enemy. My recollection is that SGT Lovett was shot in the head from an enemy about 20 meters ahead. He carried an M-79. My M-16 jammed. I cooked off one or two frag grenades and lofted toward enemy. Later, I saw blood where the enemy had been. I believe another soldier saw an enemy soldier running away and fired in that direction.
